The Dance Seen

This weekend marks an exciting event for the small but growing dance company: Votive Dance based in Halifax.

Created in 2012 this year marks their fifth season and Doherty and Mitro (co-artistic directors) carry forward with another production.

This show will feature guest artists and choreography represented by dancers and choreography from the West Coast to the East Coast.

Proven Lands choreographed by Catherine Hayward from Calgary will be danced by the artistic directors. A blend of jazz and contemporary styles, Hayward’s training at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks informed the piece which explores the power struggle, fighting to survive under forces that are out of the realm of our control.

What We Want by Kathleen Doherty was originally conceived in Mocean Dance’s The Emerge Program. Exploring identity, Doherty expands: “It is a celebration of the many different sides of ourselves, exploring poise, thoughtfulness, battle, recovery, dreams and groove in a fantastical world.”
